Today we are delighted to announce that our company, GistNote, is being rebranded and Weava is taking its place.

Haven’t heard of GistNote or Weava before? We are a workspace for research where you can highlight online articles / PDFs with our Chrome extension and organize highlights on our web app to fit your workflow, among other things.

  • Organization. Create collections to organize and outline your work.
  • Citations. Cite your sources into a variety of different formats.
  • Collaboration (coming soon). Share your work with anyone.

Check out our Chrome extension and web app here.

The Birth of Weava — how and why

When GistNote was established in 2016, we focused on solving a problem that we faced as students — the inefficiencies of the research & writing process. We wanted to build a tool that streamlined the research writing process from the beginning (clipping research information), to the end (citations), so we built different features to fulfill this. The main features included a highlighter with multiple colors, a text editor where you can drag highlights to, and a citation builder so that you can cite directly from your collection of highlights.

However, after talking to many users, we realized that the use of our tool was not restricted to students looking to streamline their research and writing and instead was attracting a huge variety of users from different backgrounds. There are lawyers using our highlighter to highlight court decisions and to draft prosecution documents and even marketing researchers highlighting articles on consumer trends. While they have different processes and deliverables, they still find our highlighting tool helpful. Therefore, we decided to focus on the core of our product highlighting and organization of research — and develop better features to serve this greater purpose, therefore shifting away from the writing process. With Weava, we aim to revolutionize the way individuals weave research together by improving the way they gather and organize information.

What’s new on the extension:

Note — the core features will remain the same we will just be introducing some awesome new features such as:

  • Clipping images. Highlight images graphs and charts (coming soon)
  • Clipping articles. Clip websites and access them in your Weava dashboard.
  • Better organization. Create sub collections, choose from a larger selection of colour tags and highlight with any colour.
  • Collaboration (coming soon). Share your work with anyone, anytime.

Other Changes:

Along with the change in company name, we will be adapting our corporate identity to suit. Our email addresses will change to the domain @weavatools.com, our homepage will become www.weavatools.com and likewise, our social media pages will all become Weava or Weavatools. The logo will remain unchanged.

What’s next?

We are currently focusing on improving the highlighting experience and organisation tools; however, this is just one of the many aspects we are working on!
