Part 1: Lotsa Tabs Edition: “Get yer tabs under control”

In our office, at almost any time of the day on any day of the week, its very likely that I have the most tabs running in my browser. I am the king of tabs!

My abundance of tabs has everything to do with research and/or inspiration. But I’m not going to get into the how, what, or why right now.

If you use tabs, I have some valuable Chrome extensions to share. I know what you need.

Lets get to it!

“WOW Sheldon, You can only see one letter of the tab name -
How do you even know where you are?”

— Morgan Catlin, President and CTO, Valtira, LLC

Blown away by the awesomeness.

Dealing with the masses

Twenty to one hundred (or more) browser tabs admittedly IS a freakish amount of tabs to deal with on it’s own — and beyond this there are also a handful of untidy and tedious uglies that appear if you go popping open links and tabs “willy-nilly”.

I mean, what do you do when a tab suddenly starts playing music or video among the bazillions open — DURING A CLIENT MEETING?!
Should you be concerned when the computer fans start whirring and whizzing? What if I want to share some of these awesome links?

Three solid Chrome Extensions for Tab Control

Here are three solid Chrome Extensions that can help immediately with your tabs. I have included examples of where they come in handy too!

Sometimes you need your tabs to shut up. Sometimes you need a place to put your web finds that is not an archival bookmark (that you will never return to).

With these three, you are covered.

  • MuteTab:
For when noisy tabs get lost in the mix. Can’t tell what tab? Not sure which window of tabs? With MuteTab, you can easily deal with videos and audio — browser-wide!
  • OneTab:
For your computer fans & the other computing ‘resource issues’ that occasionally bubble up and for a simple and sweet “I am coming back to this” archive page. OneTab is perfect the bookmarks list that you don’t want to bury or archive just yet.
(“Save up to 95% memory and reduce tab clutter in Google Chrome.” )
  • Dragdis:
Dragdis helps you to better organize & share your found links (by simply dragging cool links and web things to folders).
This is really great for organizing and it creates a visual portfolio of your links and web bits.

“WITH GREAT POWER THERE MUST ALSO COME GREAT RESPONSIBILITY!” — Stan Lee

Take these extensions and go forth to make your tabbed browsing experience better. These are just the tip of the tab iceberg, but these are three really useful extensions I use daily.

Light Disclaimer: These three are solid and well tested, but new extensions are created and released daily — so if you find a better extension let me know.

I’ll be back with some more extensions next month!

Peace out,

Sheldon
