Is the XRP Name Service (XNS) Ripe for Degen Speculation? (I Kind of Think So, and Here’s Why)

Looking at some availabilities, and speculating on XRP’s future…

A screen grab from the XNS system showing a common word perfectly available still. This word, btw, last sold for 25 ETH in the Ethereum Name Service version “goose.eth”. At the time, that transaction was worth $78k USD (here’s the tx). Is that name worth anywhere near $78k in today’s dollars on another chain? Well, apparently not, at the moment. But, in time??

So, I never knew too overly much about XRP (aka Ripple, XRPL) until lately when I’ve been pitching in on some projects on that chain. Mostly, it’s familiar crypto stuff, but XRP has its own special aspects, of course (as all chains do, I guess).

Anyway, at first, I was under the impression that I might be paid in XRP crypto. (Turned out that wasn’t true, but that’s okay, too; I also like getting paid in regular USD!)

But it got me thinking about wallet addresses, just like I’m used to doing on other chains — like ETH, of course. There on ETH, there is the well-known and well-used Ethereum Name Service (ENS) system, which allows people to have wallet addresses using words, letters, their name, or whatever — like my name, jimdee.eth (which I own, btw).

And of course, the main convenience is that people can just send ETH to jimdee.eth. (Go on, try it — beam a few ETH my way!) Just kidding…

Other chains have this, too, including XRPL, which has its XNS system.
