Why we started the Web11 Conference

You all heard of web 2.0, maybe even web 3.0. But we are working on solutions and methods that will live longer than the current web hype. We try to build software for the future. But what does that even mean?

Software engineering is immature
Software engineering itself is still very young. Of course it’s older than most of our grandfathers, but that’s still young for something we rely heavily on. Because software is so young, we can’t expect to be experts on software engineering. But we do pretend being experts.

Growing up
It’s time for software to grow up. Therefore we, software engineers, should grow up first. We have to stop messing around with important data. Stop releasing software that isn’t tested properly.

Be responsible
We at Web11, as software engineers, think software engineers should be responsible for their software. If someone loses money, gets hurt or (even worse) dies because of software, there should be consequences. We want to create a sense of responsibility.

What do we do
Because we feel responsible, we started the Web11 conference. Where we talk about various topics around the future of the web. Not only tools and methods, but more importantly we talk about security, ethics and something like a programmers oath.

What can you do?
We are always looking for software developers sharing our mission. We are also looking for people who want to tell their story on our conference. If you want to share something, please contact us at berco@media2b.net and take a look at web11.org.
