• As of 2024, India has nearly 5 million software developers.
• COVID-19 and the post-pandemic slowdown impacted the hiring.

The hiring slump continued into 2023, with gross IT hiring addition hitting an all-time low of 14%, down from a peak of 40% in the first quarter of 2022.

The industry body Nasscom estimated an addition of about 60,000 jobs in FY’24, a nearly 80% drop from the previous year’s addition. Source

The IT sector is expected to see an 8–10% growth in hiring in 2024, driven by the surge in global capabilities centers (GCCs) and emerging technologies like AI, Blockchain (web3), Cloud computing, Cyber security and deeptech.
