Introducing web3 Warri Nigeria

The web3 Warri community is a local community of (and for) developers, creators, technical writers, open-source contributors, and tech enthusiasts interested in building the next generation of the internet — web3 and blockchain technology— through educating and learning together using meetups, workshops, and conferences.

This community is based in Warri, Nigeria, and was founded by me — Charles Freeborn.

In addressing one of the challenges of the web3 ecosystem — education, I founded the web3 Warri community — as I believe that communities are a great way to foster growth through collaborations.

And so it was that I decided to host a series of in-person workshops featuring blockchain technology and the Graph— a decentralized protocol for indexing, organizing, and querying blockchain data.

I am strongly convinced that when developers come together as a community to learn and share ideas, great things happen.

And what’s more? Being a Graph advocate, I am also convinced that one of the best ways to drive the adoption of Web3 and contribute to the Graph as developers will be hosting a couple of workshops.

These series of workshops were planned with the goal of introducing web3, blockchain technology, and the Graph to the developer community and in the long run, turning these developers into contributors, subgraph developers, and Graph advocates — helping to shape the next generation of internet builders.

Part 1 — the Introduction to web3 and the Graph

introduction to blockchain and the graph — first meetup

In line with the goals of the Graph workshop series, I hosted the first workshop — an introduction to blockchain, web3, and the Graph on Friday, February 10, 2023.

This helped to lay the foundation for our community members (I do not assume that they all know what web3 and the Graph is), introducing them to web3 and the core philosophy of the web3 movement — decentralization, trustless, permissionless, and tokenomics (native payments in cryptocurrency).

The introductory meetup also helped introduce the Graph to community members.

In our introductory meetup, we had two other Graph advocates and DAO members join us remotely — Chidubem and Colson — to give talks focused on the Graph.

Our inaugural Graph workshop had 15 people in attendance.

Building subgraphs on Ethereum by Chidubem

We had the honor of hosting the second series of workshops focused on subgraphs with the Graph advocate and DAO member Chidubem, this time joining us in person, to teach about subgraphs and the Graph.

It was a truly inspiring and humbling moment for the community and me, as we look towards building the next generation of the internet, contributing to the Graph, and building subgraphs.

And for this second meetup? We had a record number of forty people in attendance.

We are most thankful to the Graph advocates and the Graph DAO for supporting us in hosting these workshop series and helping to shape the course of web3 education through community building.

What next?

We hope to continue with the workshop series and a hackathon focused on building subgraphs. You can join us at the web3 Warri community if you are excited about learning about blockchain technology.
