Thanks to Wix I bought a new Computer

When I finally found some spare time and had a look at online website builders, I could not decide which one to pick first. Some of them were more likeable at first sight than others, but I could not stop thinking about my friend’s Wix… ok, I will try to make a website in Wix.

Help me! I am a complete Wix beginner :(

I have registered for the trial version. The first step that I had to do was to choose the type of website I am planning to create — e.g. Business, Online Store, Photography, Music… I chose Photography. Right away the 2nd screen with building options popped up at me — if I want to use Wix ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) or Wix Editor (drag and drop editor). To be honest, I had no idea which option would be better for me as I instantly shut down the introductory video tutorials in the heat of excitement

That’s when I made a fatal mistake and clicked on Start with Wix Editor which ultimately cost me 1400€.

As I chose a website for the photographer at the very beginning, Wix started to offer me various pre-built templates which should theoretically fit my assignment. In addition to the selected category Photography, there are still all other categories available in the left sidebar, so there’s no problem to change the page type. Or at least until the point you add some elements to the page. Can you believe that once you added elements, the page type cannot be changed?!

You would have to start building website from scratch!

Anyway … templates themselves are quite nice and airy. I think most of them really meet the demands required by the site for photographers. They offer large pictures in the background, full size photos and some of them have prearranged eye-catching portfolios… Mentioning photos… Wix has really good pictures in their templates in terms of the diversity and quality. I even think that those photos could have helped Wix to gain in its overall popularity. But back to the point.

I chose a template Food Photographer and uploaded the craziest background I could find :D Isn’t it perfect this banana background?!

I changed the text on the homepage (this worked fine) and I wanted to change its original color to a different one (that didn’t work at all).

Whole Wix Editor totally froze up so much that I not only had to restart the browser, but even the whole computer*. The same scenario reoccurred about 4 times before I got mad and shut down the entire Wix.

Then I started looking for a new computer that can handle this online editor.

The fact it didn’t work properly was probably fault of my computer that was couple of years old (at least that’s what I thought so).

I wanted something quick, practical, suitable for daily work with websites. A machine where Wix would certainly work for all time. Always. That’s why I bought a Surface Pro 4 with 256GB drive, 8GB RAM and Intel Core i5. For Wix. And maybe just a little bit for myself too :).

* Too bad that no one reminded me to try Wix’s alternative website creation tool — Wix ADI — before I ordered Surface. It may have saved me a lot of nerves and money too…
