A beginner’s guide to navigating the twists and turns of second year Med Sci at Western University, built from retrospective feedback from 40+ upper year students.

Hey you. Yes, you! You’ve just completed your first year of Medical Sciences at Western University, and wow was it a roller coaster of a ride. Don’t worry, it’s over… for now. Relax, take a breather, get back to that Netflix show you were in the middle of- you’ve made it through first year, and should be proud of yourself.

But like many others, you may already be thinking ahead about second year. You might be stressed, worried, anxious, or even excited. Don’t worry, we’re here to help you through this process!

We are Jason Wang and Liangchi Zhou, two Med Sci students at Western University who have just completed their sophomore (second) year. We know how hectic it can be scouring the internet for the information you need, so we reached out to over forty upper year Med Sci students and asked them for some of their tips for success.

We’ve compiled and condensed their feedback alongside our own personal experiences into a series of four digestible articles outlining course selection, study habits, extracurriculars, and more! We hope this will act as a starting point for you on how to navigate your second year at Western.

You can save this page in your bookmarks and use it as a reference point throughout second year if you ever need information on these topics. We also encourage that you share this link with any of your friends/peers/family members who you think would benefit.

The links to all articles in the series are posted below…
