Hello Wecoders

Welcome to 2017. We hope you had a fruitful coding 2016 and built great stuff in the past year. 2017 promises to be a great year for technology in Nigeria. At Wecode, we will consolidate and improve on the success of the past year. We will organise more meetups, code sessions, hackathon and mentoring.

Wecode is a community of software developers, tech entrepreneurs and enthusiast in Abuja hence we are open to every person or organisation whose interest aligns with ours, for membership, collaboration and partnership.

*#Wecode2017* promises to be exciting. We are starting the year with our regular meetup where we will unleash the Jollof PHP framework and then Flutterwave team will join us to talk on how their products *Flutterwave* and *Moneywave* can enhance and integrate with businesses. For those interested in building businesses with electronic payment processing you don’t want to miss this. Brace up Java peeps, we will be exploring spring boot and plenty of it’s goodness

Flutterwave is also offering every member of Wecode community discounted payment processing and free cloud hosting. Details of this will be revealed later.

This is the the year of collaborations. Projaro will be hosting our first code session for the year and subsequent editions. Many thanks to Dimgba Kalu and the Projaro team. We have opened discussion with IBM, Google, Microsoft, Plataformatec and lots of others for partnership. The year is looking good already and we encourage you to take advantage of each opportunity.

We will be covering a lot in 2017. We will have small ‘splinter’ teams or groups that will focus on specific area of interest. This will include:

Machine learning

Big data

Programming languages

Design patterns

Functional programming

Web and mobile frameworks

Internet of things

Interaction design

etc

We are looking towards engaging the academic community in 2017, starting with universities in Abuja and its environs. We shall be having Wecode — insert your favourite school.

Wecode is an open community. It’s about people and the exciting stuff they build. We are always open to everyone. If you are interested in contributing, presenting a talk at any of our meetup, sponsorship or partnership in any form. Kindle send us a DM on our Twitter handle @WecodeNG.

Wishing you a successful year ahead.
