wedding rings manufacturing process

All of the wedding rings that we sell are completely handmade to order. Hand making the rings ensures a perfect finish and gives you a truly unique ring. The processes involved in how we manufacture our precious metal rings can be found below:

Step 1 — The Melt

We start off by melting down the metal required for each alloy. This is generally speaking performed on a monthly basis in large batches. Each metal/alloy such as 18ct yellow gold/Platinum has a separate melt. Each melt is then poured into a mould which shapes the alloy into an ingot or bar.

Step 2 — Making Sheet

A rolling press machine is used to roll the bar of chosen alloy into sheet. The rolling process not only increases the hardness of the alloy but also removes porosity, which ultimately creates a very high-quality metal.

Step 3 — Stamping

The sheet alloy is placed into a blanking press which stamps seamless ring blanks out of the sheet using high pressure.

Step 4 — Rolling

Each ring blank is assigned to a customer and is rolled/expanded into the approximate dimensions required.

Step 5 — Machining

The now sized ring blanks are machined using a lathe into the ring shape (D shape etc.), width and depth required by the customer. At this stage, any decorative patterns required will be applied to the ring. Once the machining processes are completed, the ring will be sent off for hallmarking at the Assay Office.

Step 6 — Polishing

Once hallmarked the ring blanks are polished/buffed by hand on the inside, outside and sides of the ring. If a ring requires a particular finish (e.g. satin), then it’s at this stage that it will be applied.

Step 7 — Diamond Setting

On certain rings diamonds/gemstones are required. All diamonds are selected by our in house diamond expert and are then passed on to the diamond setter for setting by hand.

Step 8 — Engraving

We use a powerful laser engraving machine to engrave our rings, which produces very high-quality deep engravings.

Step 9 — Finishing

By this stage, a ring will basically be complete, but it will require a final quick polish to ensure that the ring surfaces are perfect. Rings that require rhodium plating such as 9ct and 18ct white gold will also get plated at this stage.

Step 10 — Quality Control

This is the final step in which every single ring is checked to ensure that it not only meets the customer’s requirements but also our own very high standards.
