Rose gold jewellery became quite popular in recent years. Having a big choice between yellow, white and rose gold, zirconium, titanium and other metals, more and more couples are falling for rose gold wedding rings and engagement rings. At the same time, as you will see in this article, rose gold rings look very unique and charming!

So if you are considering to choose a rose gold wedding band, here are some answers to the questions you might have regarding this interesting metal.

What is Rose Gold?

Actually, there’s no such thing as rose gold in nature. To create it jewellers mix pure gold with copper. Usually, 75% of yellow gold is alloyed with 25% copper. But the colour can vary from light pink to deep red depending on the quantity of copper used in the alloy. The more copper is used, the deeper is the colour. To create a lighter shade of rose, jewellers use less copper and sometimes add also silver and/or zinc.

History

Rose gold, aka Russian Gold first appeared in the 19th century, in Russia and subsequently became extremely popular in the Mid-Victorian era throughout the world. Its popularity was growing and falling through the years depending on the fashion, trendsetters and various historical events.

Types of Rose Gold Carats /alloy recipes

Pure, 24 ct gold cannot be used to create jewelry, as it is too soft, so it is always blended with other metals. For instance, as mentioned above, various alloy recipes are used to create long-lasting rose gold wedding rings.

Both men’s and women’s rose gold wedding rings are available mostly in 18 ct, 14 ct, 10 ct and 9ct rose gold.

· 18ct Rose Gold — This is the highest carat for rose gold wedding bands; it is a mixture of 75% yellow gold with 25% copper or for example with 22.5% copper, and 2.5% silver. In the first case, the ring will look red, in the second case, the silver will make the ring pinker. It is possible to create various colors and shades changing the alloy recipe. Mixing 18 parts yellow gold with, for example, 2 parts copper+3partssilver+1 part zinc. Or 18 parts yellow gold+3 parts copper+2 parts silver+1part zinc, etc.

· 14ct Rose Gold — This alloy is a mixture of with 58.3% yellow gold with copper, silver and/or zinc. Again, various alloy recipes can be used to make various colors.

· 10ct Rose Gold — 41.6% yellow gold mixed with copper, silver and/or zinc.

· 9ct Rose Gold — 37.5% alloyed with copper, silver, and zinc

Here are just some examples from the widest range of rose gold wedding rings offered by Wedding Rings UK:

- Double Comfort Flat Plain Rose Gold Wedding Ring

This is the rose gold Double Comfort Flat profile which has a very stylish look and is one of our most popular shapes. It is flat on the outside but has round-over edges, which not only soften the look of the ring but also make it very comfortable between the fingers. The inside of the ring is the same as the outside (flat with rounded edges), meaning the ring gives a snug yet comfortable fit.

We can also make this design with a normal court interior if required.

The size of the round-over edge increases in proportion the weight of the ring, i.e. the heavy weight rings have more pronounced round-over edges than the medium or light weight rings. Light weight rings have an average depth of 1.3mm whilst medium weight rings are 1.7mm and heavy weight rings are 2.2mm.

- Bow Shape with Grain Set Diamonds | Rose Gold

This elegant bow shaped rose gold ring pinches in symmetrically at the top, and is complemented by sixteen grain set diamonds. The round stones are all grain set and travel from around half way around the band up to the top. The bow shape is an attractive design in its own right, but is also useful for providing a good fit alongside an engagement ring.

- Classic Court Two Tone Rose Gold Inlay

This classically proportioned two tone wedding band is based upon our Classic Court shape (medium depth 1.7mm), and has a central inlay of rose gold flanked by delicate grooves.

• 09W Two Tone = 9ct White Gold Band & 9ct Rose Gold Inlay.

• 18W Two Tone = 18ct White Gold Band & 18ct Rose Gold Inlay.

• PLT Two Tone = 950 Platinum Band & 18ct Rose Gold Inlay.
