Authentic and Humble by Teddy Salido Films and Digital Videography
We’ve all heard of how “Life is like a box of chocolates,” and how it can take us on some wild journeys we’d never thought possible. Often, we learn to roll with the punches, and find ourselves pleasantly surprised by the outcomes of our choices. We look back at our journey with rose-tinted glasses and feel not just relief, but pride, at seeing how far we’ve come.
For Teddy Salido, looking back at his beginnings is always an entertaining experience. You’d never guess it from his success today, but before he established his own studio, Teddy held a rather low opinion on wedding videos. And though he enjoyed the wedding event itself with the family and friends, he felt that they were always flat, bland, and did little more than ineffectively capture an amazing celebration with an idle camera.
Earlier in his career, Teddy was a corporate production editor. He had no intentions of pursuing wedding production until 2003 when a friend asked him to edit their wedding footage. With extensive experienced in post-production editing, Teddy gave it a go for his friend despite his novelty with wedding videography. His friend loved his work, and soon enough word spread and more requests for post-production editing came through. It was then that he realized that there was more to wedding videos than meets the eye. Teddy realized how much unexplored potential it had just waiting to be tapped.
So, in the same year Teddy not only edited but shot his first wedding video using a three-camera setup. It was a setup unlike any other in it’s ability to simultaneously offer multiple angles of coverage. The new technique was a smashing hit and the succeeding success let to a rapidly growing business. In establishing studio, Teddy initially named his studio Adtronix but eventually rebranded to Teddy Salido Wedding Films. He said the name change came from couples he’s worked with who often had a hard time remembering Adtronix. So, in the spirit of keeping it simple and listening to his customers, Teddy renamed his studio to Teddy Salido Wedding Films with his name front and center to hold him accountable. In fact, Teddy already feels a little more pressure keeping up with the quality of work he wants his name to be associated with.
“Success is way beyond creative shots, acrobatic glides and cinematic colors but more on the genuine person that you are both inside out. Your videos and style should fade behind the story you’re sharing but your authenticity and humility should stand out.”
Today, Teddy continues to be based in Cagayan de Oro where he is often referred to as the veteran amongst his peers. The monicker comes out of respect and aspiration for Teddy’s great career in the industry. Also, it serves as a strong testament to his continued adaptation to the rapidly changing wedding industry. As he has repeatedly shown, Teddy makes it a point to create videos and packages that aren’t just up-to-date and feasible, but followed and renowned with current trends.
Nevertheless, there are principles that Teddy believes will never change. While he understands that social media is a great marketing tool, he still strongly values word-of-mouth referrals over any form of digital marketing. As such, he works really hard to be able to leave a positive impression on all of his couples. One of his biggest commitments is cultivating a great relationship with every couple he comes across, and developing a friendship that lasts a lifetime. Keen and hands-on with every project, Teddy is willing to do whatever the couples’ require, so long as they create a video that doesn’t just satisfy, but impresses the couple and their guests as well.
Looking forward, Teddy believes that his team is still so far from their goals as they continue to expand internationally. Just a couple of weeks again, he booked lan international shoot at Singapore and was immediately followed by three prenuptial videos from Dubai. Teddy has grown an international following where he continues to receive more and more invitations and bookings from clients outside around the world.
So while Teddy continues to relentlessly improve his work both for local and international couples, he still operates and never takes for granted the core same lessons he still tells his more junior peers when seeking advise, “Success is beyond creative shots, acrobatic glides and cinematic colors but more on the genuine person that you are both inside out. Your videos and style should fade behind the couple’s story you’re narrating but your authenticity, quality, and humility should always stand out.”
