In any booming industry, it is easy to forget the difficulties of beginning. This is true for wedding videographers. Gathering referrals, creating a brand, learning production techniques, and even something as simple as coming up with a catchy studio name are just a few of the things Project Mayo 7 tackled when they launched their studio 2 years ago.

Founded by Albert Ao and Joubert Tan, Project Mayo 7 proved that sometimes all you really need is creativity, your best friend, and persistence to succeed in a crowded market. Albert and Joubert have been best friends since grade school but their path to creating Project Mayo 7 took more than a few years in the making.

“Your Story, Our Concept” - Project Mayo 7's mission to give each couple a different experience but with their common signature style.

In started when Albert began his career as a 3D artist for an advertising agency. He worked on all aspects of advertising from household brands to musical bands. A few years later and because of his passion for animation, he went back to his academic roots to become a 3D animations professor at De La Salle University — College of Saint Benilde. During his tenure, he was discovered by Dreamworks, where he found himself a part of the team that created Ice Age 3. During this time — Joubert, on the other hand, was busy creating a name for himself in the entertainment production industry. He was establishing a corporate career at ABS-CBN, where he became the head of television production graphics. Oddly enough, the overlap between Albert’s and Joubert’s careers didn’t create Project Mayo 7 but rather a coincidental favor did.

In late 2012, a common friend asked Albert and Joubert to shoot his prenuptial video in Japan. Realizing that both friends were familiar with video production and animation, he paired them together banking on their expertise in their respective fields. Surprisingly, the tandem could not have been a better match. Their work was so amazing that despite their inexperience with working together and working on wedding videos, it became the wedding’s highlight. It was a masterpiece that drew clients to them before Project Mayo 7 was even created.

With the turn of events, they eventually created Project Mayo 7 and decided to go at it full time. At the beginning, one of the things they thought hard about was distinguishing themselves. They wanted a brand that would stand out in a crowd. Eventually, this trail of thought led to the creation of their mantra: “Your Story, Our Concept.” Project Mayo 7 was on a mission to give each couple a different experience but with their common signature styles. As an example, one of their unique signature style is the Stop Time Concept, an amazing technique that wows everyone who sees it. And despite the styles commonality in their videos, they still continue to create it with unique experience to match each unique personality of the couples they work with. This is truly an amazing feat by the team.

Today and with with just a little over two years on their belt, the studio has already built a reputation for itself as one of the most sought after Philippine videographers. But Project Mayo 7’s journey is far from over and they have grander plans for the future. In the coming years, they hope to become one of the best wedding studios while contributing to the industry as a whole through their story and their work.
