I’m on a never-ending journey
More exciting than the one Dorothy and her motley company
Experienced on their road trip to Oz
Mine has involved facing numerous obstacles
Abounding in existential danger
With no yellow brick pathway to guide me
Trusting only in an inner light to lead the way
Companions have been varied
Staying for differing lengths of time
There are the biological ones
Parents-siblings-relatives
Keeping me grounded and surrounded in love
Helping me to survive the confusing early days
Then the chosen ones
Some all too brief before simply fading away
Others lasting decades
Most of all there has been my life partner of almost fifty years now
On the many occasions I have fallen
Feeling too discouraged to continue
Lifting me up with her unfailing support
Her faith in me
Allowing me in turn to help her when she has struggled
