A Solitary Walk
Where I Encounter The Whole World
Meteorological Spring is here
Though where I live
It is simply another cloudy and damp March day
With a cool breeze to hurry one along
The dog is on a play date
Escorted on this occasion by my wife
So I have a rare morning
Free to walk on my own
My intention starting out is to be fully present to each step taken
(Though my mind laughs at such foolishness
Certain that I will once again fail miserably
Since it insists on being in charge
And interrupting at will)
I also get some exercise
While attempting to turn the whole outing into an occasion for prayer
As I often find it easier to feel Her Spirit while out in Nature
The birds are everywhere
A non-stop cacophony of sound
Occasionally able to find bits of music in it
But mostly just noise to my ears
A thought intrudes:
How unlike my friend Julia
She would hear a whole symphony in their tones
