A Wish I MADE Come True
I guess I did make a wish come true a few years ago when I decided at the beginning of that year that I wanted to lose a few pounds for an upcoming cruise.
It was to be my first ever cruise, I was joining some ladies from my Sertoma group in southeast Texas on a fun Carnival Cruise out of Galveston, Texas. I had been researching and studying ways I could get healthier and drop a few pounds in the process and I just became determined that I would do it. And I did!
I started with a ritual where you swish coconut oil in your mouth every morning to detox your body and help make your gums healthy. Its called oil pulling. This and discovering essential oils on my journey to wellness helped give me energy, which made me move more…something as important as dieting itself.
Then I started following online gurus like Mark Sisson and Dr. Axe who taught me all about Paleo and Primal diets, and more about what role the essential oils could play in my life. I started out using lemon and frankincense oils in my water every day and the results were so positive, I just kept it up. This gave me the energy to not only clean house like a madwoman, but I also started walking and had myself up to three miles a day before it was time to cruise.
Once the time finally came to go on the cruise, some five months later, I was down twenty pounds and in much better shape, I had energy and my clothes fit better. I was proud to wear my bikini again, and I really enjoyed the cruise instead of being self-conscious about the way my body looked. Was it perfect, no - yet I was confident and felt better about myself having lost weight and becoming healthy.
The ladies took notice because before the cruise we had moved back to Ft Worth, so they had not seen me for several months. Once we were on the ship, it was go, go, go and now I had the energy to run all over the ship and we had a great time. I also had another wish granted. I had always wanted to swim with the dolphins, on that cruise, my wish became a reality. I chose that very thing as one of my excursions, it was thrilling! I never knew that the way you swam with them was belly to belly! I had always envisioned holding on to their dorsal fin and hanging on for dear life. Nope.
This journey to wellness and weight loss also was the inspiration for my blog, through that I try to help others learn what helped me. I also made the decision during that time frame that I wanted to be a writer, I’ve been writing ever since. So I guess it was a pivotal year for me, a wish came true, I made a wish come true, and I started my life as a writer/blogger which continues to this day.
