Among the World’s Greatest Gardens
Olinda Has Several of Australia’s Best
Author’s Note: I acknowledge the Wadawurrung People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the lands, waters and skies where I live and work, and I pay my respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, as well as to all First Nations’ communities who significantly contribute to the life of Australia. The gardens discussed in this story are part of the traditional Country of the Wurundjeri People.
Every year, my partner Paul and I travel to the Dandenong Ranges on the eastern edge of Melbourne, which is only two hours from where we live. Our destination is the little town of Olinda, where we usually stay for a few days, for no reason other than to enjoy the wonderful gardens. Ten or more superb gardens and arboretums are found within the immediate area, of which at least two rank among the world’s greatest.
