Baby Cows Are the Cutest

We arrived back to Canada last March (2023) and it wasn’t long before we would drive by farms and see the baby cows jumping around in the pastures. I’m a sucker for animals, in general, but I really love baby animals. Watching the calves bounce around with glee put a massive smile on my face every time I saw them.

Last September, when we stayed at this farm for 5 weeks, I suggested to the owner that we come back to help with calving season. I couldn’t think of a better way to get up close and personal with all the adorable baby cows. She sort of laughed because she figured we would be well and gone out of Canada by now. However, here we are, back on the farm and experiencing our first calving season.

We have just crossed the halfway mark and have about 60 calves born. Originally the owners were expecting 117, but we now have three sets of twins. Sadly, there was one stillborn, which brings our expected total to 119. But, of course, that number can change again.

As we have been nomadic for the past 6 years, we have had a wealth of different experiences. This is just one more to add to the pile. Calving is lots of hard work and we have certainly had our days of exhaustion while…
