Back home…not really ⛰️
Hampta pass trek, Himachal Pradesh, India
I am back home trying to look at the farthest point across the sandy beach of the Arabian sea,
I no longer see the layers of delicate misty wool decorating the distant peaks,
I no longer feel the cold wind that freezes my thoughts and melts my strength,
I no longer hear the rains that accentuates the rocky texture of the steep sloping sides of the mountains,
I no longer could capture subtle creativity of nature that shares a tale with the mountains,
I no longer could cut my tent zip across the distant waterfall in the rock that felt the tremors of the bygone landslide,
My ears could no longer meet the musical notes from the mountain streams,
I no longer see the bright stars excavated on a pitch-black canvas from the mounds of dense clouds,
I no longer hear -
the chirpy conversations in the tent,
the adjectives,
the laughter.
All I am left with is a message engraved in my heart,
The message from the mountains only to a trekker,
To come back to the mountains,
To explore its familiar yet unknown terrains,
To weather through the unexpected,
To roll a few stones,
To slide over the gravel,
To maneuver through the boulders,
To dare the biting cold river-crossing barefoot,
With every step,
You imprint your presence in the mountain’s soul,
You become part of it,
Neither the ascent, nor the descent,
Neither the pass, nor the summit,
You submit to the majestic mountains and its might,
All over again,
Yet again,
And again!
