A day in St. Augustine
Captain Argentina’s son and his partner visited us from New York City for the weekend. Their only request was to spend Saturday in the Old City of St. Augustine, a wish we thought might be unfulfilled due to a storm named Humberto. Fortunately, Humberto stayed far enough off the coast that the most problematic effect was gale-force winds that made photography a challenge. Many of my shots were trashed due to blurring caused by the wind nearly blowing the camera out of my hands! Even some of the ones I kept are shaky and not at all to my liking. But, no one could complain because the day was gorgeous.
We stayed only a few hours, visiting the old fort, walking down St. George Street, and eating at the Colombia Restaurant before heading home as feeder bands of rain drifted ashore bringing intermittent showers.
I was disappointed that we didn’t get to experience more in the area, especially the beach on the Atlantic coast, but Captain Argentina and I plan to return in October when I’ll have more time and opportunity to concentrate on photography and when, hopefully, it won’t be so blustery!
