Capturing Colors Close Up
A square day in Puerto Rico
Square photos suggest postage stamps — at least, they do to me. I have tussled with the “rules” of photography all my long life, but I enjoy breaking them. Today I determined to do that by playing with the format.
My theory is that the grand gamut of gorgeous colors of the flowers in our front garden beds — viewed close up — would trump the idea that square format photos and center-subject photos are dull.
Sort of like the Vinca above. But I’m not so sure.
I experimented by capturing similar colors among the zinnias: there were so many they were easy to find. Zinnias are a radiant rainbow among the annuals.
Does placing the bud off-center make a more pleasing square photo than placing it right smack in the middle? I suspect it does.
