Chasing Lightning Bugs
A Poem
Today was a hot, muggy June day.
The sun sets and the world cools.
A different world appears as everything darkens.
Insects arise as the sun disappears.
Mosquitos hunt for easy prey,
Moths of all sizes and colors flutter from grass and tree.
Lightning bugs rise en masse from daytime hiding places.
The vocalists: frogs and crickets begin their nightly serenade.
All is set to the backdrop of a forest of trees…
