A poem for an angel friend

Sketch by the author

There you are, in your flight and height!
Here, whoop down; sit with me a while,
to share some sips of words and wine;
and watch the world without your wings of might.

Let me slide them off your shoulders —
these bright and glowing feathers of wonder
that you have stitched and grown and worn.
Let me lay them on the floor.
Let dirt ruffle their color and grace.
Maybe we’ll color in a bit of grey!

Shake off your plan for the days.
Stretch your arms, let your legs astray.
Let’s walk the town.
Let’s just be today.
