Please heed my prayer

I do appreciate your efforts to enlighten me
But I must ask a favour now and hope your words will help me see
To share your thoughts upon the subject, which I would never guess
But please don’t write it oh so long for it will give me stress

My attention span is counted in minutes on my hand
I have so many things to do, you’d never understand.
I look at all the titles that come up on my page
And think I should start writing too — it seems it’s all the rage!

So many success stories there and everyone’s a star
You’re making so much money — and I can’t afford a car.
So follow your direction is all that I must do.
And write a thousand words a day, and I’ll be just like you.

…and then —

I started now 3 months ago, and often I did write
But no-one seems to read it, I must be writing shite!
I thought by now I’d be rolling in the dough
Someone bought me coffee once — earned three bucks, don’t you know.

I’d hoped I’d get curated at least once in my life.
But ev’ry thing that I can write only turns the knife
I don’t seem to have the recipe to ever make things right
It feels like time for me to go and slink off in the night.
