Are mice and rats unharmed by molds in heaps,
Although mammals, like careful cats, they be?
The moth and ant known to devour, each creeps,
On edibles and other goods left free,
As well as things held dear to humans who,
May store them through the lonely years until…

A bursting blaze comes through,
And melts our world, now still.
Will it be eaten down,
By beasts with stronger claws,
And jaws? Or will they drown,
In flames and ash before,
They bite? Will He restore?
