Enjoying the Silence
Finding gratitude in the unimaginable
When we were looking to move one of the requirements was it couldn’t be anywhere we would need a snow shovel. Florida seemed like it ticked all the boxes. I mean, when you think of Florida, you think of beaches and palm trees, right?
Wrong!
We are getting hit with a major winter storm. So far we have gotten about six inches of snow. Most people who live somewhere where they get snow throughout the winter might laugh at that. I used to be one of those people.
The entire city shuts down. Schools close, grocery stores close. Want to go to the mall? Nope! All government offices are shut down and people are told to stay home.
When it snows in a location that never sees snow, there are some major considerations that other people might not realize.
- People suck at driving. They could be driving down a straight road in the best of weather and still manage to not pay attention and get into accidents. Now you make the roads slick with snow and ice and they’ve never driven in it? Yeah. No thanks.
- There are no snow plows. There are no trucks to salt or sand the roads. This isn’t something that ever needs to be done, so the cities don’t spend their money on that equipment. Why should they?
