It’s Too Cool To Be August; Is Summer Gone Already?
The heat of last week is gone and now it seems like fall
Last week seemed to be typically August. It was hot and humid. The air conditioning begged to be turned on. We were at my Dad’s house in Western New York, not far from the small towns on the Erie Canal.
The street fair, Canal Days in Spencerport, was jam-packed as people wandered in shorts and tank tops drinking cold cokes and iced tea. It was summer and felt like it.
Summer means heat in most parts of the world. Even in higher northern latitudes, August means that days are muggy and temperatures reach into the 90s. It sets us up for a welcome relief come September and the back-to-school season.
By now, during the second week of August, the landscape is typically less verdant and the lawns’ are burned out, leaving a dry, brown dull appearance to yards. With care, flowers can still flourish in the heat and humidity — even without daily watering.
