Lessons from the Dandelions
Worth comes from inside,
Not from the world’s
Reaction to you.
Think of the humble dandelion
A weed, worthy of mowing down
Poisoning in disgust
Only for some people, however.
In Italy, the leaves are gourmet food,
Foragers feast on the sweet flower heads,
Vintners turn a dandelion into delicious wine,
Weeds to some, sustenance and delicacy to those
With eyes to see the beauty, gift, and potential
Of the humble dandelions.
Children and children-at-heart
Never doubt the gift of a just-picked flower, or
The power of blowing the seeds across the yard
Sending wishes into the sky,
All from a single humble dandelion.
The bright, happy dandelion
First food of spring for bees
After the harsh, cold winter,
Where would we all be, if not
for the humble dandelions?
You’re more beautiful than you know,
More powerful than you imagine,
Life could not go on the same
If you were not in it.
Just look in the eyes of a child who
Loves you, they know your worth,
Learn to see like they do,
Learn from the dandelion, too.
