Look up & See another World
Life is all about perception & perspective
A dark armada of cloud —
white cotton gloves reaching down —
tracks my evening walk.
I sense pity for frail humans
from the gods.
What bird’s eye view
silent & remote from suffering
wouldn’t bear feeling like a cross
seeing any diminutive creature
move across a concrete bypass?
I am surrounded by slow-moving cars
lungs met by lead fumes.
There is here & there is there.
We all know which we prefer.
Home now — the lawn needs mowing.
Head up & great fans of cherry blossom
make the sky look dull.
Who is moved to pity now?
For I am the sky and you the ground.
I tell you — we all see what we want.
