Where to begin? Let’s get the easy stuff out of the way first. The Medium algorithms are low on my list of concerns. They have always been changeable and opaque. Reimbursement rates are similarly a nuisance, but nothing to deter me from continuing to be a member. November this year will only amount to half of my peak months in the past year. But put in perspective, it will still amount to twice what my per month totals were for my first three years here.
No, what gives me pause, is that the number of reads of my latest pieces are down significantly for the first time in over a year. The quality of those reads, as measured by the comments remains fairly high. However, if fewer people take the time to even view my work, despite my continuing to spend hours each day reading the writings of others, something needs to change on my end. A part of the problem might be is that some people who subscribe to receive e-mail notices when a submission of mine is published might not in fact be getting any notice. This has occurred, and continues to happen to me, for some of the writers for whom I subscribe.
I already, except for rare exceptions, only read one piece per writer per day. Sundays are a day of rest, I will respond to comments, but generally not read. Then there are some writers whose subject matter doesn’t particularly appeal to…
