My Leg is NOT My Friend

Tale of the Alien Limb

After my stroke on June 1st, the first sign of debility was that I was unable to move my left leg and had limited movement in my left arm and hand.

As the days passed, I worked at getting these limbs to move. The arm and hand returned to partial mobility, but the foot and leg fought back.

My foot and leg felt very heavy and very ungainly. Attempts to move the foot were met with a lot of push-back. I would try to aim it right, and it would pull the other way.

The leg would just stay and refuse to budge. I could move it a couple of inches, but no more.

I got the impression that the leg belonged to another body, not mine🤨

Above are my caricatures of how I perceived my leg and its alien activities.

As time has been passing, the leg is becoming slightly more responsive and feels lighter; however, I still feel somewhat disconnected. I can tell it really wants to leave.🤬 It makes me think of the Peter Sellers character with the prosthetic hand in the movie Dr. Strangelove.
