Prodigal (Not Quite)

When kindness fails

This poem licks the centre
of the page
while you stay dry
at the edges

Despite the short
distance I know
we will
never meet &

I am tired of trying
to cross the ocean
preferring
farewells to
utter indifference

I am in the waterfall
of grief
while you insist on
stagnant pools
unmoved
