it’s startling how I still see myself
in a waiter's collared shirt. that’s an
out of print book, the first sentence of reams.
I’ve traveled the plains, where the moon
and sun are forever more in your face.
where buffalo are my playmates
who say, although they never said, pet me.

and stay.
