If you go out when it is nearly dark
because you remember the rich color
to harvest before the coming frost —
bright zinnias and Mexican
sunflowers — watch for tiny sleepers.

You may see a small dark body, just off-center
in the deep saffron disk of a zinnia,
take your time. Let your eyes…
