Snow Fell During the Night

A late winter gift

Snow fell during the night,
just a few inches secretive and mute.
When I awakened to the brightness
of the dawn capering in my room
and pulled back the bedroom curtains
I smiled, forgetting for a moment to breathe
so transfixed was I by the shell-pink light
illuminating the laden branches
like the gleam of cherished porcelain,
so delicate though made from bones and clay
