In my entire life, I have only worn fleece or knit pants maybe 10 times. I always considered them to be super casual, definitely not something I would wear during the day, and definitely not something I would wear on the street.

Fast forward to my unexpected stroke on June 1, 2023, and suddenly, I am unable to move about freely, never mind get dressed.

For the first two weeks in hospital, I was stylishly dressed in a baggy hospital gown. Since I was going nowhere but to the can (usually wheeled there on a mobile porta-potty device, guarded by one of the nice nurses who ensured no body parts were revealed during the short journey), the baggy gown with the sexy open back was not a problem.

However, I realized that in order to regain mobility I was going to need to get out of bed somehow and start rehab, and the hospital gown was not going to cut it.

Sadly, I had no street clothes at the hospital, since I was admitted wearing jammies. So, I asked my husband, Bruce, to try to locate and bring some street clothes from home.

I also realized that bottoms would have to be pull-on style since trying to work with tight jeans was not going to be feasible with only one side of the body in working order.

I remembered that I had two ratty old pairs of fleece joggers that I kept for laying around on couches when feeling sick. Fortunately, Bruce was able to locate them and a couple of loose-fitting tops.

Has any one else noticed that when one looks at ads for this type of clothing, one sees fit young men and women doing something sporty and looking cool, but unfortunately this was not the look I was to have.

It is hard to look trendy while trying to get a non-functional body part to work. (As you may recall, my left leg has been acting like an alien being, going in its own direction. Getting pants on and off is a nightmare. Walking is more hunt and peck than a nice forceful stride.)

So, as I stood, newly attired in my tatty joggers and top, I gloomily reflected that maybe this is my new reality: Limping around in baggy joggers.

At any rate, it will be a long time before I can go back to the slim-fit pants of yester-year.
