The Daily Daffodil

A small little daffodil pops up in the midst of the garden. A garden that was created by the women who had little to say. She had always dreamed she could be similar to her garden; beautiful and catch the eyes of others as they walked by but she was unnoticed and underestimated. The garden was small, but anyone who walked by could tell there was a vast amount of hard work put into it. In the corner of the garden grew a tiny little daffodil. It wasn’t prominent, but the gardener had noticed it during her daily pruning and decided to leave it alone. What she didn’t realize is that although tiny, it was only going to multiply like ants to dropped crumbs, and kill all things that once were beautiful. Before the gardener realized, it was and her once prized possession had grown brown and droopy from decay. A weed. A wild plant growing where it is not wanted.

A daffodil is much like negativity. It may start off small, but it will only continue to grow until it takes over what once was beautiful. What once was unique. And it is certainly not wanted. Negative self-talk is people planting weeds within their own heads. Tearing down a beauty that they can not see and with it themselves. Day to day, many may make comments in their own head. “Why would I say that? It was so stupid”. “I can't go out looking like this.” Soon this dark aura sweeps over the mind and creates a perfect environment for self-resentment making themselves believe what those sneaky little thoughts are saying. Their beauty dims and they no longer hold the beauty they had once before. It grew from one thought to a thousand within a week and the blossoming positive thoughts are no longer as strong.

Do not underestimate negativity. Do not let your garden suffer but nourish it with what it needs to grow. Love. Care. Kindness. Every garden is beautiful and so are you. Don’t be afraid to appreciate the beauty you have created and let nothing, not even a weed, steal that from you.
