THE LAST SONG — a poem by Soheil Erfani Tabar

“Amidst all those soulless conversations,

Each drop of words,

There is a river flowing,

Saying that I’m alone.”

“Struggling for a breath,

Reaching for a saving hand,

You can’t really think well,

While being drowned.”

“The feeling of numbness,

That sign of the lost war,

Then, there is a record,

Playing on a gramophone.”

“The lyrics are sweet,

But they end in sadness,

You can’t stop listening,

Repeating it is the answer.”

“I can see you, my darling,

But only in my dreams,

That shall be enough,

These are part of the lyrics.”

“A tap on the shoulder,

A waiter doing their job,

Giving you your order,

Leaving you behind.”

“The lyrics are still there,

Waiting for your presence,

That shall be enough,

That shall be my life.”

“The world is out of function,

Sounds becoming mute,

Vision becoming grey,

But I’ll touch the song of you.”
