There is something sacred and magical about lagoons. Coastal lagoons are ecological powerhouses that support a variety of habitats, making them life-giving, sacred spaces. Together, the open water, water-snaked mudflats, soggy marshes, and the wildlife that comes with it all, create the sacrality and mysticism of a lagoon.

The Bolinas Lagoon is a tidal estuary in Marin County, California. It is part of the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. Bolinas Lagoon is also one of only seven Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance in the western United States.

The lagoon is adjacent to the village of Bolinas, a town that is not very well known. Those who call Bolinas home work hard to not become the next tourist destination. They care deeply about the environment and want the natural world that surrounds them to stay natural.
