Tropical Autumn in Living Color

A visit to Villa Flores

Into each life, some color must come. I made that up, but it seems like a good idea. After a trip abroad, where almost everything was grey, I have been glorying in the lush greens of Puerto Rico, where I live. (It is nothing like what that dingbat said it was.) I bathe in the verdant beauty around my mountaintop home, but I don’t dare ignore its flowers!

Hibiscus (here, they are called Amapola) are all over our property. They seem to love our rocky volcanic soil are always in flower. I photograph them often: they also seem to always pose differently! I do have some problems with bougainvillea and roses. It’s because, like many politicians, they have thorns.

As beautiful as they are, all members of the lily and amaryllis families can be poisonous to animals if they eat them. Our animals seem to prefer kibbles, but if you permit your pet outdoors, it’s probably a good idea to keep your eye on them. Outside animals know what to eat and what to avoid. If not, many dogs…
