I haven’t seen many Muscovy Ducks for months, and none on our lake. I usually see a mating couple at the Cherry Tree Pond at the southern entrance to our boulevard and sometimes a group of three or four on West Rainbows Pond. This guy, Ranger, is part of that group. In this photo, he’s at a small pond at the entrance to a subdivision, but it’s only a few yards from West Rainbows Pond, where I imagine the rest of his gang were. It’s not unusual for Ranger to leave his group behind and go on a solitary adventure, sometimes living on his own for weeks. That’s why I named him Ranger — short for The Lone Ranger. He’s an odd duck, for sure!

This was the eastern sky beyond the Muscovy. It looked more like fire and smoke than sun and clouds.

As for my health, the pantoprazole that I’m taking is giving me back pain — deep aches across my shoulder and waist. I’m also very tired and depressed. I’ve only seen a minimal improvement in the reflux — maybe 15%. I hope that will increase with time. Because I use Biotene Dry Mouth Spray during the night, my mouth is okay when I wake…
