My wife Kazumi and I have discussed moving away from the United States for eight years. The topic resurfaced recently when I told her about Dennett’s monthly writing challenge prompt, “Where Would You Go?”

When I asked her where we should go if needed, she immediately replied, “Japan.” I agree. For us, it is the most straightforward option.

Kazumi grew up in Japan on the subtropical southern island of Okinawa, so she knows the place well. On the other hand, she has lived in the United States for her entire adulthood. But if we were to move to Japan, we would settle in the Okinawa prefecture.

Moving to another country would present many challenges. Every country has its advantages and disadvantages. Below are some of the pros and cons of moving to Japan.
