Ahh yes. It is finally Friday. Class just ended, the longest week of your life has just come to an end, and it is time to relax, unwind and take a couple days off. What are you going to do? Especially here at Marquette? There are a couple ways to spend your Friday nights.

One major way students spend their time on Fridays, if they are of age of course, is by drinking and making the infamous Kilbourn Krawl. Nearly every student has made this journey up and down Kilbourn Avenue in search of social events. I know I have countless times. Sometimes it has turned out well, while other times it has resulted in a sad walk to Dogg Haus to munch on cheese curds and meet the other rejectees. Junior Brendan Attey can attest to this.

“There were a lot of times over the course of freshman and sophomore year that we would walk up and down Kilbourne and not get in anywhere,” he explains. “It kind of sucked but it was part of the experience I guess.”

Not about the whole party scene? You are not alone. According to the Marquette website, drinking culture on campus is about average when compared to the rest of the schools in the United States, hovering around 50% of students choosing to drink and not to drink.

“Sometimes it’s nice to just stay in and do nothing,” says Attey. “It’s nice to just hang out and lay low, and sometimes go and explore Milwaukee and see what it has to offer.”

Marquette offers a wide range of solutions for those who are not about the party life. Late Night Marquette weekly has a ton of activities for students looking to have fun without alcohol. Some include bubble soccer, movies, trivia, and many other things.

After a long night of doing whatever it is you choose to do, it’s always a great feeling to crawl into bed. Pull the covers up over your head, and fall asleep knowing that you don’t have to hear that annoying song you have set as your alarm Saturday morning.
