Summertime in Northern Michigan

I’m in Michigan this summer to be with my Mom as she undergoes chemotherapy for breast cancer. I’m grateful for this time with her, and for the opportunity to reconnect with family, friends, and my home state. Her treatments are at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, but we spend as much time as possible between appointments in beautiful Leelanau County.

Northern Michigan’s gorgeous scenery—beaches, dunes, lakeshore, trails, vineyards, cherry orchards—is unparalleled in my experience. I love California, but there’s nothing like fresh water, no traffic (Leelanau County has one blinking traffic light!), and familiar faces. I am very enthusiastic about supporting the local businesses in the area, including the shops in historic Fishtown (Leland gal, Haystacks, Village Cheese Shanty, Spørck Tileart, and Tug Stuff, to name a few) as well as exploring Lake Michigan via boat, paddleboard, or coastal hiking trail.
