After Apple released the first ever iPhone, we have, as a society, become more and more inundated with screens. I’m typing this outside a cafe, where there is a family with two little ones who each have their own personal iPad entertaining them as much as the long spring doorstopper did for me as a kid.

Fast forward 16+ years later from the first iPhone, we have some companies who are attempting to break free from that mold. Humane is one such company, founded by two former Apple designers. It’s being touted as a smartphone replacement, although I’m not entirely sure that will be the case upon its release.

The Humane AI Pin has also been growing in fame, with a bustling discord server of over 15.5k members at the time of writing this. More and more articles are popping up each day and, for those of you on social media, you might have come across ad for the Humane AI Pin (nicknamed the “HAP”).

So.. what exactly is the HAP? Coming in at 34.2 g with a battery booster of 20.5 g, it is a small-form smart gadget that a user would wear on the front of their chest. The HAP can take photos, send texts, project a laser visual on your palm, and play music. The coolest feature though, in my honest opinion, is the fact that the HAP comes with a virtual assistant thats always ready to search the web and communicate.

Therefore, we should be able to communicate with someone who speaks a different language. Or ask the AI pin to provide answers on certain subjects instead of manually searching on wikipedia or google ourselves. You can have the HAP “catch you up” on texts you missed while you were out hiking. It can even be a personal reminder to take your medication, which you can reference to see if you’ve already taken your meds for the day.

In today’s realm of smart wearables, the AI Pin is one of the most sophisticated devices that is nearing reality. But only time will tell if it is as cool as it is advertised.
