Why We Aren’t Just Another Anonymous Social Network

A refreshing (and much needed change of pace), our Trill tricolon for user safety to make our platform a truly positive place.

So let’s just address the elephant in the room: we’re an anonymous social network. You’ve heard that before, right?

So you’re probably wondering… How does a new anonymous social network prevent itself from spiralling into the negativity vortex of past attempts? How does it avoid the trap of becoming a place to share only hatred and distrust? The answer, we believe, is threefold. Trill combines easily accesible features for reporting posts, aggressively engaged, specially trained, and deeply empathetic moderators, and machine learning to ensure the ultimate safe space for all our users.

STEP ONE: The users themselves — Every post and comment on Trill can be reported by any user in three clicks (That’s right! Just three simple, secure, and safe clicks.). Confirm the reason why a post should be taken down (does it indicate the poster might harm someone else, does it make you feel uncomfortable, etc.), and it will temporarily be removed from the feed so Trill’s moderators can screen it and ensure it was justly reported. Our users have the power.

STEP TWO: The moderator framework — Moderators are an essential part of Trill, and one of the main reasons why the app is what it is. Moderatos scroll through the feed, reporting any posts that need to be deleted, and offer support to any posters in need, including those who show signs of harming themself or being harmed by others. Moderators also act as community admins, each curating one of Trill’s communities (or private, smaller support groups — read more about those here) to ensure that all parts of Trill remain safe and supportive. Peers supporting peers is the model Trill was built upon, and it elevates our platform into a virtual support group like nothing that has ever existed before.

STEP THREE: Artificial intelligence — We have developed these algorithms, and are training them based off of data from reported posts. The tech was built in house and is fully prototyped. All we need now is more data. Once the ML is trained, it will report any negative posts, which will then go through an additional screening by human moderators before they are deleted.

If you’re interested in being a moderator or learning more, you can see the application here. We would ❤ to have you on our team!

SO LONG STORY SHORT — Everytime you post on Trill or report a post you are contributing to a larger effort to ensure our platform doesn’t spiral out of control. Not now. Not ever. This is our movement: to make the Internet a safer space. And we promise we aren’t “just another anonymous social network.” We are the anti-social social network. We are Trill.
