Frank Bolten (Chainstep), Benjamin Federman (doks innovations), Onur Ergin (Fleetboard Innovation HUB) and eciotify’s venture developer, Lara Obst, participated last night in our meetup’s panel discussion at the NBT AG office in Berlin.

The panel was foregrounded with an insightful presentation given by Frank Bolten, the CEO of Chainstep. It focused on the interconnection of IoT and Blockchain within the logistics and transportation field. Quoting Florian Glatz, he stated that Blockchain converts data into facts and thus enables radical changes and future developments in logistics, along the whole supply chain.

Jumping into the discussion, Onur mentioned the challenge of the vast amount of data produced by millions of future IoT devices. Their data and moreover transactions, can yet not be safely accessed and transferred. However, he believes blockchain technology holds the potential to change this.

Darina moderated a lively discussion, revealing many differentiating views of the panellists: ranging from using blockchain combined with drones in warehouses or to enable more efficient resource allocation in order to greener the environment (Benjamin), as well as being able to access and read data being produced through millions of devices all over the world in real time (Onur). Lara also pointed out that blockchain in general and especially in logistics needs time to develop and be implemented on the community-based mentality of sharing within the ecosystem. This stands in contrast to conservative views, where companies do not want to delegate control. However the nature of blockchain and its integration in existing systems requires an inclusive approach.

Unanimously the group agreed on blockchain as a chance to increase collaboration and making therefore logistics more cost-, time- and resource efficient. At the end, Lara wrapped up the talk by explaining the importance of security in the IoT and blockchain field, making eciotify a necessity in the future of safe digital asset transfers.
