Week 42, 16 Oct — 22 Oct

Objectives

Going into the second half of this sprint, we moved to synthesize our prototype findings from our traveler recommender prototype and begin our second prototype, which is aimed at staff. We also met with our client and presented our the project status to this point. We scheduled a stay at the hotel and would use that day to perform our prototype test.

Actions

We started the week by conceiving of what our staff prototype would look like. We followed a similar process we had for the previous prototype. Our staff content collaboration prototype would both an experience prototype and a co-design activity. First the staff members would fill out a survey asking them questions that would be used to create their staff profile. We would then take their results and put them into an InDesign prototype to show them. We would use this activity to prime participants for a co-design activity where we had them ideate around what kind of content could go into these profiles. We divided tasks and broke to work on creating this prototype for testing on Wednesday.

On Tuesday the we met to synthesize our first prototype findings. Some of our big learnings were:

  • We can help travelers assess recommendations by providing contextual information about the recommender and narrative details.
  • Giving users greater control over their experience may help to build trust.
  • Users want to see the map.
  • Authentic local recommendations are appealing. (Surprise!)

We then went to the hotel to stay and perform our staff testing. After meeting with our client, we worked with three staff members. To our surprise the three staff members were more than willing to help us. One thing that stood out to us was their enthusiasm in engaging with our idea and sharing with guests!

Next steps

  • Synthesis from staff work
  • Next prototype
  • Begin work on next prototype
