At first the Princess is an inept and unwilling student, however with time she learns from her teacher. Kaerith is patient but stern.

Five Tree of Destiny years later — the Princess has become proficient at all types of weaponry including ball and chain. Her body is muscular and toned. She is easily able to hold her own against the wily Kaerith in most forms of hand to hand combat.

Eowalian pronounces that the Princess is ready for the trial she must pass in order to overcome and oust the evil Bardovudd.

She must retrieve the magic sword of her father, the Sword of Destiny.

Eowalian bids Kalila loose her braids, and Kaerith to ready her sword. Eowalian bids the Princess kneel, and lay her braids out in front.

Kaerith ceremonially slices the braids off with her sword. This act signifies that the Princes is now a sword fighter, a Knight, and no longer a child.

The Princess with her full fighting garb and weapons and shorter hair now resembles a youth and thus may go undetected on her quest.

Eowallian attaches a magic talisman to the Princesses right arm — a carved leather armlet bearing the words “Sword in the Stone”. This is the talisman that will permit her to safely grasp the Sword of Destiny. )

Eowalian has prepared a travel pouch with food and takes the Princess to the door leading out of the courtyard into her former world, the Princess sadly bids them farewell, the faithful Astilii at her side.

As she passes into the forest, the Tree of Destiny slides closed behind her. This quest she must complete on her own, or die trying.
