You can write the body of the next here, or insert a heading to break up the story. (Again, by double clicking on the line or highlighting it).

Formatting on Medium is simple, but will make your post look more professional and it’s a good habit to get into if you want more reads.

This Is An Example Paragraph Heading

Followed by more block text.

You can add a page separator — those nice little three dots — to break up the post and enhance readability. (To do this, click on the plus when you click on a new line, and click on the - -)

Then You Can Add Another Heading or Subheading As You Need

Then more text…

Quote Blocks

If you’d like to enhance readability more, try a quote block. Can be like this…

Or like this…(Depending on how many times you press this button:

You Should Add an Image

If you have an image in the article, it will show up when your post is featured or shared so it’s important. And if your picture is relevant it will also get you more reads. Unsplash is built in to Medium and most people use that feature to find a free/copyright free image to use.

Do this by clicking the plus button on any new line and pressing the magnifying glass (to search for a free and beautiful picture on Unsplash). Or press the picture button to upload your own — make sure you have copyright if you choose to do this and credit the creator.

The EM Dash

Lastly, if you’d like to use brackets, a comma, or a colon, but feel like they are too formal — why not use an em dash? This is one — and it’s great. To do it on Medium, simply put two dashes next to each other and as if by magic — an em dash will appear.

Then finish your post and sign if you like.

Best,
